New York Subway ticket machine

IDEO designed the hardware and screen interface for the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority automated ticket machines.
One of the requirements of this project was the strict adherence to the ADA guidelines for the disabled and visually impaired. The hardware and the screen design are integrated with the use of strong colours and animation which help people to identify the parts of the machine to interact with during the sequence. Movement, high contrast and large simple graphics enable the visually impaired to see the information. The project research included focus groups and users tests with disabled users.
: interaction designer. I participated in the initial conceptual hardware and software integration, story-boarded and prototyped the chosen interaction flow for user trials, and supervised the final graphic design solution.
